The police have rescued a baby sold by a housemaid for N800k in Lagos.

It would be recalled that an X user took the platform on Sunday to announce that a housemaid absconded from her mistress’ home in Somolu, Lagos in the early hours of the morning.

The housemaid, named Ruth, carried her mistress’ 7-month-old baby and left the home between 1 and 2 am while other members of the household were sleeping.

She was later traced to Ikorodu where she confessed that she had sold the baby for N800k to someone she could not trace.

The police this morning announced that the baby had been recovered.

The Lagos Police Command’s spokesperson tweeted:

“Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.

The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her.

Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.”
