Ortom: Twitter ban illegal, suppression of fundamental human rights

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom

The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has taken to Twitter express him mind in defiance of the Federal Government’s ban of the micro-blogging platform.

The governor twitted on Tuesday:

“The ban on Twitter is not only illegal but it is also an ill-advised move to divert the attention of Nigerians from the FG’s failure to tackle insecurity in parts of the country. It amounts to suppression of fundamental human rights and gagging of social media.”

Ortom’s Benue State has been under severe attacks by killer herdsmen who have killed and maimed thousands of rural people with no response from the Federal Government.

The situation has left the governor abandoning diplomatese and calling out the Federal Government and President Muhammadu Buhari for their lack of concern for the carnage happening in the state.
