They refused to pay the N100m compensation ordered by court, says man whose wife was shot dead by police in Lagos
A man whose wife was gunned down in a tricycle in Lagos in 2015 has disclosed that he is yet to be paid the N100m compensation the court ordered the police to pay him for cutting his wife’s life short and severely injuring him.
Godwin Udoh was returning from church with his entire family when one policeman demanded N2000 from him in 2015.
He said he told him he had no money to give him as he was just returning from church.
Udoh said the second policeman there told them to go and he entered his keke and was driving off when the initial policeman who asked them to stop fired into his keke.
A bullet caught Udoh in his jaw while another bullet killed his wife.
He sued the police and won. He was granted N100million compensation.
However, when CBN was served the judgment, they said the police had only about N500,000 in its account and therefore could not pay the judgment debt.
