Two sisters killed in Ogun building collapse
A building has collapsed in the Ojodu Abiodun area of Ifo Local Government area of Ogun State, claiming the lives of two sisters.
The incident happened on Saturday in the compound of a family, identified as the Ayanshinas, following a downpour.
The 16-year-old Suliyat and her 25-year-old elder sister, Nofisat, were trapped in the collapsed building.
According to the Punch, the two victims were said to be within the structure when the Saturday downpour started before the building caved in.
It took some time for neighbours to free the sisters, who were hurt and trapped within the collapsed structure.
As soon as they were rescued from the wreckage, the residents rushed both injured sisters to Tomade Hospital, Ojodu Abiodun, which is close by.
However, Suliyat and Nofisat were confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.
An eyewitness, who lives in the community and spoke anonymously because he was not authorised to speak for the family, claimed that everyone was taken off guard by the incident, adding that residents did everything they could to save both victims from the rubble.
The source said, “The sisters were inside the house when the incident happened. We all jointly made efforts to rescue them from the wreckage. We immediately took them to the hospital. It’s so sad that we lost them.”
Meanwhile, after the matter was reported to the police, the family insisted that the deceased be buried according to Islamic rites.
Speaking, the state Public Relations Officer, Odutola Omolola, who confirmed the incident, said the family insisted that the victims be buried immediately.
