Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting, Nick Mangwana has explained that popular journalist, David Hundeyin was prevented from entering Zimbabwe, detained and deported for not carrying valid travel papers.
David Hundeyin had earlier taken to his Twitter handle to seek assistance to be released from detention in Zimbabwe.
In a series of tweets, Hundeyin said he had been detained inside a ‘smelly, locked up room’ for seven hours. He said he arrived the Southern African country on the strength that it has a visa-free relationship with Nigeria but that upon his arrival, he was asked to provide his visa. He said he has been locked up with another woman from Uganda.
He asked anyone with some influence to tell the authorities to allow him return to Nigeria and that he will never step foot in that country again.
However responding to the outcry that attended his tweets online, Mangwana said Hundeyin carried invalid travel documents.
