Actor, Yomi Fabiyi, 4 others stage protest at Panti over Baba Ijesha’s detention
Actor Yomi Fabiyi and four other persons showed up at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department this morning, Wednesday, May 12, to stage a demonstration over the detention of Nollywood actor, James Omiyinka, better known as Baba Ijesha, who is being held in connection with defiling a minor.
Baba Ijesha was arrested in March following a complaint by comedienne, Princess, that he defiled her foster daughter 7 years ago and attempted to do it again while being secretly filmed.
Yomi, a colleague and friend of the accused person has been speaking largely in favour of the embattled actor, thereby incurring the wrath of many of his colleagues who felt he was being insensitive to the victim and her family.
He promised yesterday that he would come out to protest the continued detention of Baba Ijesa if he was not released.
Today, he made good the promise by showing up with four other men, bearing all manner of placards.
Yomi Fabiyi argued that holding Baba Ijesha without trying him is against his fundamental human rights. He is therefore asking the police to release him.
The protesters were seen carrying placards and banners with different inscriptions such as ‘Denial of bail of bailable offence is human rights violation’, ‘Nigeria police, please allow the law to dictate to you, not Iyabo Ojo, Princess and co’, ‘Release Baba Ijesha’, and ‘Nigeria police must respect human rights and honour bail for bailable offence’.
