Philip Azubuike, swept away by flood

One of the casualties of the recent flooding of Trademore Estate, Abuja, has been identified as Philip Azubuike, a physics lecturer.

Azubuike was allegedly swept away by the flood the flood that overran Trademore Estate in Lugbe area of Abuja on Friday June 23.

Azubuike, who was a member of staff of the Physics Department of Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Adamawa State, was in his Peugeot 406 car with registration No. YLA 681 FS when he was swept away.

His corpse was recovered from the canal by the entrance of the estate.

Alhaji Ashiru, an inspector of police newly posted to the area, who narrated how he lost all his properties, said he pulled out the corpse from the canal with the help of other residents around.

Several residents said they saw the victim struggling to come out of the Peugeot car when the flood started.

“We saw him on the top of his vehicle trying to avoid the flood, but later we did not see him again,” a motorcyclist told Premium Times after the corpse was pulled out.

Meanwhile, friends, colleagues and former students have taken to Facebook to mourn the young lecturer.

“DEAR MAU STUDENTS. It’s with great grief that we announce the death of one of our lecturer’, Mr Philip Azubuike, who was one of the victims in the adverse scene of the “Flood in Lugbe, Abuja”. We are tremendously saddened by your death. Mr Pee, everyone’s favorite Physics lecturer on campus. I pray your soul finds solemn peace, and rest in God’s bossom. Gaa nke ọma. Laa na ndokwa. Ruo mgbe anyị zute,” one Akachukuwu Agudosi, wrote.
