Friends call for probe of NBL’s top manager shot dead in Ibadan

Friends of a top manager at the Nigerian Breweries, Ibadan, have called on the authorities to look into his gruesome murder by yet to be identified gunmen.

Fatai Olukayode Lawal, Brewery Business Controller at the Nigerian Breweries, Ibadan was waylaid and on March 21, 2023 while driving towards Ibadan Airport in company of some people.

Two men riding a motorcycle were said to have double-crossed the party. One of the two assailants brandished an AK47 assault rifle and shot the NBL chief in the head and chest before speeding off.

An eyewitness around the Kasko area on the road said the incident happened so fast that nobody could react immediately.

It took several minutes before the women in the party were able to raise some help and take him to the hospital. Police at New Gbagi Division were said to have promptly referred the matter to the state CID.

Authoritative sources indicated that efforts to crack the case have not yielded fruit as at the time of filing this report.

Sources said the deceased occupied a position at NBL that gave him responsibility for checks and accountability in the company.

He had been working for NBL for 20 years and was about to retire when he was killed.

The deceased was living in Bodija Estate, Ibadan before his untimely death.

His friends are now expressing their frustration with the lack of progress on the case. They are calling for more concerted efforts to trace and apprehend Lawal’s killers so that they can be brought to justice.
