A wedding ceremony has ended in chaos and anguish as nine guests heading for the wedding died in a road accident in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State.
The news of the accident and deaths filtered to some guests at the wedding reception when the couple were already on the dance floor and all hell was let loose as guests wailed loudly.
A truck carrying cement was said to have rammed into a commercial bus belonging to Who Go Better Transport Company at Ekpon Junction, along the Agbor-Ewohimi Road on Saturday, April 24.
The victims, who were friends and relations of the couple, were travelling from Benin City to the wedding venue in Ewatto in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Out of the ten wedding guests, only one person identified as DJ Nasco, survived and is currently in the intensive care unit of Shillo Hospital in Ewohimi, in Edo State.
One of the deceased has been identified as Constance Omoijade, a 2018 graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi.
The bodies of the victims have reportedly been deposited in the mortuary.
However, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Edo Sector Command, Henry Benemesia, who confirmed the incident disclosed that five persons died on the spot, while others were taken to the hospital and he was yet to confirm if they later died.
An angry mob reportedly set the truck ablaze after the driver escaped from the scene.
