A trending video has shown the moment a saloon car in the parking lot of a Shoprite outlet in Lagos suddenly erupted in flames.
Bystanders first noticed smoke coming out of the bonnet of the Toyota Camry, locally called ‘muscle’. In another few minutes, fire emerged from under the closed bonnet.
The owner of the car had gone inside the mall for shopping or merriment at the time of the incident, making it difficult to open the car and the bonnet to attack the fire at the source.
Good Samaritan later broke the driver-side window in order to open the bonnet.
The man filming the incident can be heard discouraging the good Samaritans trying to save the car. He told them not to waste their fire extinguisher because ‘this one has already been consumed by fire”.
However, the good Samaritans did not listen to him and were able to open the bonnet to access where the fire was emanating from.
