Man murders neighbour six days to his wedding, collects ransom, dismembers victim

A man, planning his wedding, has met with untimely death in the hands of his neighbour who promised to help him get cows for the ceremony in Kwara State.

The victim, Olokose Ojo, was killed six days to his wedding by his neighbour, Kazeem Mohammed, and his gang. His body parts were used for rituals.

Ojo, about 30 and a staff member at the National Health Insurance Scheme unit of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital was chopped into bits by the suspected ritualists and packed into a sack which they deposited at the mortuary of the  teaching hospital.

Mohammed, a serial convict, reportedly obtained sensitive parts of the victim’s body before pouring acid on the remaining parts so they can decay fast.

It was learnt that the wedding was to take place in March in Akure, Ondo State. Mohammed who promised to get cheap cows collected N350,000 from Ojo for three cows.

The two neighbours later travelled together to Patigi, in the Patigi Local Government Area of the state to buy the cows.

Mohammed reportedly took his neighbour into the bush where his gang members were already waiting and held him captive.

The gang subsequently called the family of their victim to inform them that he had been kidnapped and would only be released if the sum of N12m was paid. This was reportedly negotiated to N3m and paid.

The criminal gang reportedly also used the victim’s ATM cards to collect about N1.2m from his account.

The victim was reportedly killed after his relations paid the ransom demanded.

His dismembered remains were reportedly given to the relations of the victim at the teaching hospital on Tuesday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, said police investigators were already on the case and had started making some arrests.
