Lagos-Ibadan Expressway: Kidnapped Mapoly students released

The students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, abducted last Friday on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, have reportedly been released.

The students were released after the payment of the ransom gathered by their families, mates and good Samaritans.

Quoting sources close to the victims, Punch reported that the students have now been reunited with their families.

The students’ union of the institution had been soliciting funds from members of the public to realize the ransom demanded for their mates, Adejare Olayemi (male) and Oluwatobi Orekoya (female).

They were kidnapped alongside other travellers near Sat Guru Maharaj Ji camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Other persons identified as kidnapped at the time included one Aminat Taiwo (female) and a former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Adigun Agbaje.

The abductors later contacted the families of the victims and demanded N50m for Agbaje, while N10m each was demanded for the students.

The bandits later agreed to collect N2m for each of the students and gave the family a deadline of Sunday evening.

After the ransom was dropped the bandits reportedly released the students.

Oluwatobi’s family member, Segun Orekoya, confirmed to Punch that she had been released together with her friends.

There were unconfirmed reports that the professor had been released as well, but his family members could not be reached to confirm this at the time of filing this report.
