Nigerian man dies while playing football in China

Tweeps tongue-lash Lagos PPRO for misleading public on the incident

A Nigerian recently died while playing football with his countrymen in Wenzhou city, Zhejiang province, China.

Some reports indicated that this event happened in Lekki, Lagos, but facts emerging indicated it, in fact, happened in the Nigerian community in China.

Several clips have been released by Nigerians living in the said city to corroborate that the sad event indeed happened in China. (See our Telegram Channel for these clips)

The man, identified as Kizito, can be seen first leaning forward, with both hands resting on his knees.

But he rises as the ball is going towards his side, but crashes to the ground shortly after.

His colleagues fail to take it serious, and some can be heard telling him in one of the clips, “Stop joking, na”.

When he refuses to stand up they take him to the side of the pitch and called an ambulance. Some of them still do not see any danger sign.

One says: “Kizito, talk to me. Talk to me,” as the man appears to gasp for air.

The friend who is holding Kizito’s hand, at some point jokes, “Hennessy dey, o guy.”

The man fails to rise and paramedics later arrive to administer CPR, but it appears too late as he fails to come to.

A clip shows the moment his body is put on a wheeler ready for the morgue.

Meanwhile, some Lagosians are attacking Lagos State Police command’s spokesperson, Ben Hundeyin, for falling for the first misleading information that the incident happened in Lekki, Lagos.

Many tongue-lashed him for not doing due diligence before spreading the news on his Twitter handle.

The police officer had tweeted

“Yesterday in Lekki, a 31-year-old slumped and died while playing football. Don’t push the limits. When tired, take a rest. Above all, do regular medical check-up. Like we say in the streets, ‘Life no get duplicate!’

When someone pointed out to him the incident happened in China and not Nigeria, he responded that investigation had commenced into the matter.
