Commuters are having a hellish experience on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway from Magboro to Alausa section of the road owing to road rehabilitation.
Hellish traffic snarl returned to the stretch of the expressway after Julius Berger, the contractor handling the road rehabilitation narrowed the four lanes to two lanes some weeks ago.
The situation worsened on Thursday, August 25, after the contractor narrowed the two lanes to one.
The traffic backed up to Magboro from the point of the narrowed road at OPIC, near Kara Market.
Motorists who survive that have another gridlock to contend with from Kara bridge as traffic extends from Secretariat part of the road where the contractor has again narrowed the road all the way back to Kara Bridge.
In essence, motorists spend up to five hours to move from Magboro to Ojota, a distance that would normally take 20 minutes to traverse at moderate speeds.
Some impatient motorists trying to avoid the gridlock ply one-way, compounding the woes of law abiding motorists.
FRSC officials were noticed on the road on Thursday, but there was very little they could do.
A motorist who spoke to Microsecondnews on the earth road parallel to the expressway at Warewa on Thursday said they were compounding motorists’ misery as they were randomly stopping vehicles to check their documents.
Speaking on the detachment of FRSC men on the earth road near AP filling station at Warewa, the motorist said: “These ones are not helping matters. People are already stressed. They have stayed unduly long in traffic. This is not the time to be adding to their misery by stopping them to check for documents and what have you. They should go to the express to stop people taking one-way. If not, they should go to their office”.
