Lawyer Omirhobo dressed in Olokun robe confronts guard who tried to stop him from entering Lagos court (Video, photos)
Human rights lawyer and activist, Barrister Malcolm Omirhobo causes a stir at the Federal High Court, Lagos on Monday when he appeared in a combination of a lawyer’s and traditional religious practitioner’s garb.
At the entrance, a man presumed to be a security guard ran after him and tried to prevent him from entering the building.
The lawyer introduced himself as a lawyer to which the guard told him the judge would not allow him to address the court in that apparel. The lawyer told the guard to leave that for the judge to decide, educating him that the Supreme Court had spoken on the matter.
With that, he proceeded to stride into the court, with all eyes focused on him
The lawyer had dressed in a similar way to the Supreme Court, Abuja last week in protest against the recent ruling of the apex court permitting Muslim students in Lagos schools to wear hijab with their uniform.
For his appearance today, he added long feathers to his wig and wore noisy traditional bangles on his ankles, such that each step elicited the distinct noise of cowries rubbing against each other.
His colleagues looked on in amusement as he took his seat waiting for the day’s proceedings to commence.
