Food security in Nigeria is further threatened by the confirmation of an outbreak of birds and locusts in three Northern states of the country by the Federal Government.
The swarm birds and locusts are said to be destroying farm produce in three affected northern states.
Chief veterinary officer of the federation, Dr. Maimuna Habibu told newsmen that the reported cases of locust invasion were particularly bad in Zamfara and Kebbi States.
She disclosed that they had deployed officers to begin aerial attacks against the locusts in the affected states.
Habibu noted that this came after complaints of the destruction of crops from farmers in the affected states.
