There was a riot at New Benin Market today after a man stabbed a trader to death over a minor disagreement.
A source at the scene of the incident told Salemgist that a man of northern extraction was standing in front of a shop and was asked by the shop owner to move away so he could open his door.
The Hausa man reportedly took offence and engaged in a verbal war with the shop owner.
The situation escalated quickly and the Hausa man drew his dagger and killed the trader who is said to be an easterner.
A mob thereafter descended on the stabber, beat him thoroughly and were about to set him ablaze when the police arrived to rescue him.
