Combined efforts of residents and a team of policemen have saved a bank customer in Bayelsa State of being dispossessed of N10 million by armed robbers.
Like a scene from Nollywood movies, the drama played out on around the Sani Abacha Expressway in Amarata area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital on Monday.
The victim had reported succeeded in collecting the cash from a commercial bank and was driving to his destination when the hoodlums trailed him and shot at him.
Eye witnesses said the man refused to stop until his tyres were shot. He subsequently lost control of his SUV and crossed to the other side of the road, somersaulted a couple of times before hitting a commercial tricycle.
Residents in the area reportedly rushed in to help, with some hauling missiles at the SUV of the armed robbers. The police team attached to the bank were also said to have joined in, forcing the robbers to flee.
It was gathered that nobody was killed in the accident. But it caused traffic gridlock that took quite some time to clear.
The victim was rescued from the car wreckage and taken to a hospital together with the tricycle operator.
