A suspected kidnapper wanted in Oyo State for murder has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command.
The suspect, Usman Hassan, was part of the gang that abducted and later killed an Ibadan farm owner, Dr Oluwole Agboola.
Hassan’s brother, Usman Tahiru, worked on the farm of the late Agboola. He and a couple of others were arrested after the murder of the farm owner and he confessed that he collected N50,000 as his share of the ransom paid by the deceased’s family.
Hassan had been elusive since the kidnap of Agboola at Solalu Village. He left Oyo State all together to make it difficult for the police to track him and settled down in a remote village in Ogun State.
Oyo State Police Command spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a statement on Monday that Hassan had started recruiting other Fulani men to form another kidnap gang in the state when he was caught.
He disclosed that some of the Fulani men he tried to recruit tipped off the police who thereafter stormed his hideout in Imala area of Ogun State and arrested him.
Oyeyemi said when the suspect was interrogated, he confessed to conspiring with his biological brother, Tahiru Usman, and others to kidnap their victim in Akinyele area of Ibadan.
According to Oyeyemi, Hassan confessed that Agboola was killed after the gang had collected ransom because he (Agboola) recognised them.
Oyeyemi added that the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun had directed that the suspect be transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, from where he would be transferred to Oyo State Police Command for further interrogation and subsequent prosecution.
