Boko Haram terrorists fight for control of Dikwa, breach UN hub

Boko Haram insurgents fought a long battle with national forces on Monday evening in a bloody bid to take control of Dikwa in Borno, northeast Nigeria.

Dikwa town, about 90km from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, has experienced several attacks from Boko Haram since the liberation of the town in 2016.

Military presence there is strong as it is the base for military Super Camp 9 where the Chief of Army Staff gave order for the retaking of Marte last week. Marte is some 20km away.

The attack on Dikwa came barely days after the military engaged the insurgents in a battle to retake Marte Local Government Area from the militants.

Sources said the insurgents have taken control of the United Nations hub in the town.

Meanwhile, insurgents also attacked Mussa in Askira/Uba local government area, also in Borno state.

Villagers said they came into the village on motorcycles and shot sporadically and were engaged by troops from the 115 battalion stationed in Askira/Uba.

It was gathered that it took another reinforcement to kick them out of the village.

Efforts to get information from military authorities were yet to yield any positive feedback at the time of filing this report.
