A police team led by an officer named Jejeloye on Sunday physically assaulted a journalist with The Guardian, Eniola Daniel.
The reporter was stripped, injured and his phone was damaged.
The police team was reportedly operating at Ladipo Auto spare parts market, Apapa-Oshodi expressway early on Sunday when reporter was informed by the company’s security supervisor, named, Bello.
Bello told him the police team apparently attached to a taskforce were burning tyres and destroying shops along the road.
The reporter got to the scene past 10.am and was recording the raging fire set on the highway when he was slapped from behind by a man in plain clothes
Other security men bearing arms later swooped on the reporter and dragged him into the stationed Black Maria.
The reporter said he brought out his Identity Card and showed the police, but that did not stop them from beating him.
The Lagos State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Muyiwa Adejobi, has promised to get to the root of the matter.
