‘We only asked if she had doctor’s prescription’ – Ogun police deny arresting MAPOLY student

Victim says, 'I was locked up in a cell'

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have denied arresting Olanipekun Oladayo Irenimofe, a student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, for buying a pregnancy test kit and contraceptive.

The sister, Oluwatosin Olukoya, has however countered the claim by sharing the picture of her sister locked up inside a police cell before she was later released when she raised dust on Twitter.

Recall that Oluwatosin took to Twitter yesterday to raise alarm that her sister was picked up by policemen for buying pregnancy prevention pills in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

“My sister, a student of Mapoly just got arrested for going to buy postpill and pregnancy strip. She’s at a police post in Abeokuta,” she had tweeted.

In subsequent tweets, she revealed that her sister had been released, but that policemen went searching for her again.

Olukoya later tweeted that police went to arrest the pharmacist who sold the products to her sister.

“Please help oooo, she just told me they’ve gone to arrest the pharmacist that sold them to her.”

However, the spokesperson of Ogun State Police Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the police were doing their duties by questioning her on whether she had a doctor’s prescription or not.

“The command has released her since morning. She was questioned if she has a doctor’s prescription,” he said.

The account is different from what the victim put up on her Instagram page. On the page, she said she was actually locked up. Read her post below:

The sister also fired back at the police. She countered that the police were being economical with the truth.

She queried why they locked her up like a common criminal if she was not arrested. She further asked why they collected N2,000 from her, and an additional N1000 from the pharmacist who sold the items to her sister.

In a series of tweets, she said:

“Yes this is all you can do! You’ve done what you know how to do best! Explain to the whole world why you collected 2k from her and why you collected 1k from the pharmacist!!!! You locked her up like she was a criminal!!! Not on my watch.”

“It’s not on my watch would you treat my sister like she’s a criminal! Arresting her for having sex! You were all shouting at her for having sex!!!!!”

“@Postpill, please come and explain to @PoliceNG. They want to be schooled about contraceptives. Abi why would they arrest a 24year old for getting @Postpill.
They said it requires doctor’s prescription.”
