The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has released the statistics of subscriber movement across the networks for Year 2020, indicating that a total of 187,171 mobile subscribers switched their network service providers.
The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) scheme introduced in 2013 makes it possible for a subscriber who is dissatisfied with the service he is getting from a network to request to move to another network while retaining their number.
The preferred destination for moving mobile subscribers in 2020 was 9mobile, which received 74,134 telephone users.
The second biggest inflow of subscribers was witnessed by Airtel, which added a total of 67,927 subscribers, while MTN gained 37,027 customers.
Globacom recorded the least number of 3,870 subscribers.
On the flip side, the operator that lost the most subscribers in 2020 was Airtel, which lost 67,596 customers, followed by Globacom, which lost 55,322; MTN which lost 35,881 subscribers; and 9mobile which lost 28,372 customers.
