Following the sudden passing of veteran Nollywood actor and former football star Diewait Ikpechukwu, his grieving daughter has issued a frantic, tearful appeal to the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and online content creators, demanding an immediate halt to all public announcements and photo tributes regarding her father’s death.
In a poignant video that quickly went viral across social media platforms, the late actor’s daughter expressed deep distress over seeing obituaries and memorial posters flooded across digital spaces before the immediate family had fully processed the loss or officially broken the news.
Clad in a shirt previously worn by her late father just hours before his passing, she broke down in tears as she begged industry colleagues and fans to respect her family’s space during their private moment of mourning.
“I didn’t want to do this video, but make nobody post my papa. This is a very hard video for me to make. Please, nobody should post my daddy’s poster. I’m still wearing my daddy’s shirt; he wore it yesterday,” she pleaded in the video.
The emotional plea highlights an ongoing ethical concern within the Nigerian entertainment industry, where news of a veteran actor’s passing is frequently leaked or broadcast by colleagues and guild chapters on social media before close family members are ready to make formal announcements.
Diewait Ikpechukwu, who passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the age of 71 after a battle with a chronic illness, served as the former Chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the AGN.
Known for his commanding roles in hit Nollywood titles such as The August Meeting and Ìjé Love, his death has sparked widespread mourning—yet his daughter’s outcry serves as a stark reminder of the human cost behind breaking celebrity news.
