UK-based Nigerian on vacation in Nigeria abducted, killed in Delta

Samson Onotakaroma Agidotan

A 44-year-old United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Samson Onotakaroma Agidotan, who was abducted and later found dead in Delta State, has been laid to rest in his hometown of Okpanam.

The tragic incident came to public attention after a UK-based friend of the deceased, Omoike Erewele, shared details of the ordeal in a Facebook post on Friday, May 29, 2026.

According to Erewele, he only became aware of Agidotan’s death after receiving an unexpected phone call from a woman who later identified herself as the deceased’s wife.

She reportedly informed him that Agidotan had travelled from the UK to Nigeria to visit his family when he was kidnapped on January 24, 2026.

The family later received devastating news when his body was discovered in a bush on February 17, weeks after his abduction.

Agidotan was buried on May 22, 2026, in Okpanam, Delta State.

Recounting how he learned of his friend’s death, Erewele said he initially received a call from an unfamiliar woman while driving from Peterborough to London on the M25 motorway.

He said the caller later sent him a photograph, which revealed that the person in question was his close friend from Sapele.

Erewele explained that he had previously tried reaching Agidotan on his UK phone number but found it switched off, something he considered unusual.

According to him, the woman later sent an obituary poster and revealed that she was Agidotan’s wife. She reportedly obtained his contact details from a mobile phone Agidotan had previously given to their daughter.

Expressing his grief, Erewele described the deceased as a humble, kind, peaceful and hardworking man whose death had left him deeply shaken.

He lamented the pain now being endured by Agidotan’s wife and daughter and prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.

The deceased’s death adds to growing concerns over insecurity and kidnappings in parts of Nigeria, particularly involving Nigerians returning from abroad to visit family and loved ones.
