The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched a manhunt to track down the killers of a resident, Unwana Okon, who was lured to a village and murdered in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the state.
The victim, a resident of Ndot Village, was allegedly contacted via telephone by an unidentified person inviting her to Mbiaikot Village under the guise of buying Afang leaves, before she was ambushed and killed.
Phone call and robbery
Spokesperson for the Command, DSP Timfon John, stated on Sunday, November 1, 2026, that the victim’s brother, Eno, reported the incident to the police after she failed to return from the meeting.
“The incident was reported on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at about 1530 hours, by one Eno, who informed the police that his sister, Unwana Okon, had received a telephone call from an unidentified individual inviting her to Mbiaikot Village under the pretext of purchasing Afang leaves,” the statement read.
Okon honoured the invitation but her corpse was later discovered at the scene. Her assailants fled with her mobile phone and an undisclosed sum of cash.
