Police in Lagos State have launched a homicide investigation after a man who travelled from Ondo State to attend a party in Ikorodu was robbed and killed by suspected cultists.
The victim’s body was recovered days later from a nearby river.
Ambushed outside party venue in Ikorodu
The victim, identified as Tosin, had travelled to the Egbin area of Ijede in Ikorodu, Lagos State, to attend a social event on Tuesday, September 15.
According to police sources, Tosin briefly stepped outside the venue during the event when he was cornered by a group of armed hoodlums. The assailants robbed him of his valuable possessions—including gold chains, mobile phones, and other personal belongings—before killing him.
Body recovered floating in Agura River
To conceal the crime, the attackers dumped Tosin’s body into a nearby body of water.
On Thursday, September 17, community members spotted his floating body in a river in the Agura area. Authorities recovered the corpse and deposited it in a local morgue for autopsy and forensic identification.
Police raid yields arrests as SCID takes over case
Following the discovery of the body, police operatives conducted targeted raids across the Ijede and Agura communities on Friday, September 18, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects connected to the crime.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident, stating that the case initially began as a missing person investigation on September 15 before turning into a homicide investigation.
The arrested suspects remain in custody for interrogation as the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) leads the effort to identify all individuals involved in the attack.
