Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, Secretary to the Ondo State Government and eldest son of late Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has revealed that his father held a personal covenant with God to pass away upon reaching his centennial age.
Speaking during a condolence visit by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the family residence in Ijapo, Akure, on Tuesday night, Dr Fasoranti emphasized that the family is celebrating rather than mourning the late elder statesman’s life and legacy.
“Baba often told us that he had a covenant with God that whenever he got to 100, he would go. He repeatedly told us that when he died, we should not cry. We are not mourning Baba; we are rejoicing. Baba has left us a big pair of shoes to step into, but we can only thank God for the legacy of firmness, resilience, hard work, and love that he left us with.”
Dr Fasoranti described his late father as a devoted parent and a quiet, highly effective communicator whose counsel guided the family and broader political community across decades.
Governor Aiyedatiwa pays tribute to late statesman
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa praised the late leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, characterising him as an epitome of humility, wisdom, and selfless service whose impacts on governance and public education remain indelible.
Aiyedatiwa noted that even in his final year, Pa Fasoranti remained mentally sharp and actively engaged in guiding state policy. He assured the family that both the Ondo State Government and the nation at large would accord the late leader a fitting state honour.
