A fuel-laden tanker was engulfed in flames under the Otedola Bridge along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway on Monday evening, October 19, 2026.
The emergency was confirmed in a brief operational update issued to journalists by Olawale Afolabi, spokesperson for the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
LASEMA dispatches emergency responders
According to the agency’s official account, a distress alert was received at approximately 4:24 pm reporting a heavy-duty tanker on fire near the bridge axis.
LASEMA activated its specialised response unit to address the inferno and contain potential secondary explosions or road hazards:
Incident location: Under Otedola Bridge, outbound/inbound corridor along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
Alert time: 4:24 pm WAT.
Response unit: LASEMA Tiger Team deployed to secure the scene, fight the fire, and manage vehicular movement.
