A 48-year-old Ghanaian university lecturer, Kofi Akamani, has been shot and killed at a residence in Jackson County, Illinois, prompting the arrest of his wife by local law enforcement authorities.
Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at a home situated off Lake Road, between the towns of Murphysboro and Carbondale.

Emergency responders transported Akamani to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival from severe gunshot injuries.
The deceased served as an associate professor in the Department of Forestry at Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale, where he specialized in forest recreation and conservation social science.
