The Lagos State Police Command has arrested six suspected members of a notorious ‘one chance’ robbery gang allegedly terrorising commuters in the Okota area of Lagos.
The arrests were disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation carried out by officers along Ago Palace Way in Okota.
Authorities said the suspects were travelling in a tricycle bearing registration number AAA 720 QL when operatives intercepted them while they were allegedly attempting to rob unsuspecting passengers.
The police stated that the suspects abandoned the tricycle and fled immediately after spotting security operatives at the scene.
During the operation, officers reportedly recovered a cutlass believed to have been used in their ‘one-chance’ activities, alongside a mobile phone.
The suspects were later identified as Basiru Rilwan, 23; Afeez Akeem, 25; Ademola Yekeen, 20; Sodipo Oyeyemi, 27; Ayomide Gafar; and Fabayo Michael, 28.
Further investigation by the police reportedly led to the recovery of a dummy pistol allegedly used by the group during their operations.
The command noted that the suspects would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
The police also reiterated their commitment to strengthening proactive policing and tackling criminal activities across the state under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai.
Residents were urged to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with useful and timely information to help rid the state of criminal elements.
