Wife petitions IGP over husband’s mysterious disappearance from offshore oil platform
A Nigerian woman, Senorita Otasowie Inegbedion, has issued an urgent appeal for justice and petitioned Inspector General of Police Tunde Disu following the sudden disappearance of her husband, Destiny Yinusa Inegbedion, from an offshore oil platform.
Destiny, an offshore cook employed by Prestige Hotel Limited, went missing on August 6, 2024, while working on the Sigmund Oil Platform located in Rivers State and operated by Sigmund Oil Field Limited.
Distress call and workplace threats
According to the missing worker’s wife, her last telephone conversation with her husband occurred on August 5, during which he raised serious concerns regarding work-related conflicts, interpersonal threats, and a “gang-up” by certain colleagues on the vessel.
Subsequent attempts to reach him were unsuccessful, as his messages went undelivered.
On August 6, colleagues reported him missing from the offshore facility. While his personal belongings, including his mobile phone and wallet, were recovered inside his cabin, Destiny could not be located anywhere on the structure.
Lapses in security and ongoing police petition
Mrs. Inegbedion raised additional concerns regarding security oversights on the platform, pointing out that security cameras aboard the vessel were reportedly non-functional at the time of the incident, while the facility’s dedicated security vessel was also out of service.
Her petition to the Inspector General of Police calls for an exhaustive investigation into key operational personnel and contracted firms involved in managing the oil platform.
More than two years after his disappearance, the family continues to demand a formal report from maritime authorities and the Nigeria Police Force to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
