Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, in connection with the alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo.
Law enforcement authorities have also launched a manhunt for a second suspect, identified as Boye Balogun, who fled the scene following the incident.
Details of the incident and preliminary investigation
According to an official statement published by the police on Thursday, the alleged assault occurred on August 30, 2026, at the victim’s residence located in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo.
The victim’s mother reported the crime at the Ijebu-Igbo Police Division on Tuesday, September 1, prompting immediate police intervention. Officers secured the scene to gather forensic evidence, while the victim was transported to a General Hospital for medical evaluation and care under official police documentation.
Following initial inquiries, detectives tracked down and apprehended Kamula, who remains in custody undergoing interrogation.
Police launch manhunt and transfer case to State CID
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for specialised investigation and legal prosecution.
Reacting to the arrest, Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni strongly condemned the act, reiterating the command’s zero-tolerance stance against sexual and gender-based violence.
CP Ojajuni described sexual violence as an egregious crime, assuring the victim’s family and the public that a thorough, discreet investigation is underway to ensure full accountability. He further urged anyone with relevant information regarding the whereabouts of the fleeing suspect, Boye Balogun, to contact law enforcement authorities immediately.
