A Celestial Church of Christ evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, have died in separate circumstances following an alleged domestic fight at their residence in the Akinode/Ibogun community, Ogun State.
The tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday, August 25, after a physical confrontation between the couple allegedly left Adenike fatally injured, while her husband fled the scene and was subsequently killed in a vehicular accident.
Community members recount late-night ordeal
A former Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA), Adejimi Olawumi, recounted the events in a video interview with Arole TV, stating that neighbourhood alarms raised at approximately 1:00 AM drew residents to the couple’s residence.
Olawumi revealed that neighbours entered the property to find Adenike lying unconscious in a pool of blood. While community members gathered to organise medical assistance, they discovered that Abidemi Odukoya had disappeared from the premises.
A subsequent search by the CDA revealed that the cleric had fled toward the Ifo area of the state, where he was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle.
Police officers transported him to a nearby hospital, where his identity was confirmed before he succumbed to his injuries.
History of domestic conflicts reported
A younger sister to the late evangelist disclosed in a viral video that the couple had a history of marital disputes.
She recounted an instance from April when the couple visited her following a violent disagreement that required police intervention to resolve. Despite mediation efforts by family members and church leaders, domestic friction reportedly persisted leading up to the fatal incident.
Following the events, Adenike was laid to rest on the day of the incident, while Abidemi Odukoya’s burial rites were conducted by clerics on Wednesday, September 2.
Police launch formal investigation
The Ogun State Police Command has launched a formal investigation to determine the exact sequence of events surrounding both deaths.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Opeyemi Oluborode, confirmed the incident, stating that homicide detectives are currently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
