“I was paid N500k to pour acid” — Suspect confesses after attacking wrong woman in Lagos

A 37-year-old man, Ziaulihak Zakari, popularly known as Abuja, has allegedly confessed to collecting N500,000 to carry out an acid attack on a female spa worker in Lagos State.
The suspect reportedly admitted that the victim, Olorunseunfunmi Awosogbon, was not the intended target.
Awosogbon suffered severe injuries to her head, chest and hands during the attack, which happened on October 25, 2025, in the Lakowe area of Ibeju-Lekki.
According to reports, the victim had gone to honour a home service appointment booked through the spa where she worked when the attack occurred near Lakowe Golf Gate.
Speaking on the incident, the victim’s employer, Olorunmaye Ifeoluwa, alleged that the attack was linked to issues involving a former relationship between her and another suspect identified as Owolabi Daniel.
She explained that the relationship ended after several disagreements.
Zakari and Daniel have since been arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Magistrate Court on charges bordering on conspiracy, threat to life and causing bodily harm.
In a video reportedly obtained after his arrest on March 19, 2026, Zakari admitted he accepted the job through a middleman.
“There is a man named Daniel who contacted me through a security guard and told me he had a job. When he said he needed someone to pour acid on a person, I agreed,” he said.
The suspect further confessed that fear initially stopped him from carrying out the attack.
“I couldn’t carry it out the first time because I was scared. When another opportunity came, I mistook the target and attacked the wrong person,” he added.
Zakari also claimed the acid was provided by Daniel and the security guard, adding that he paid the guard N50,000 from the money he received for connecting him to the job.
He expressed regret over the incident.
According to the charge sheet, the suspects allegedly conspired to commit felony offences, including threats to life and causing grievous bodily harm, contrary to the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Daniel was also accused of allegedly threatening Ifeoluwa through WhatsApp messages, while Zakari was charged for unlawfully wounding Awosogbon with a corrosive substance.
