
Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has passed away at the age of 66 following a battle with cancer.
The widely acclaimed Yoruba film icon reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The news of his death was confirmed in an emotional video shared on social media by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, who was seen in tears announcing the passing of her father.
“My daddy is dead,” Kira stated in the clip circulated across social platforms.
Battle with Stage 4 Cancer
The actor’s passing comes days after his daughters, Kira and Haleemah, publicly revealed that their father had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. The family had previously issued an appeal for public support as they sought advanced medical treatment options.
Born in Ilaro, Ogun State, Hassan was an influential figure in the Nigerian film industry, particularly across Yoruba-language productions, where his career spanned several decades.
Known for his commanding screen presence and roles emphasizing cultural values and morality, Ogogo trained as an automobile mechanic before transitioning into full-time acting in the 1980s under the tutelage of the Odunfa Theatre Group.
He starred in and produced scores of iconic Yoruba movies, establishing himself alongside long-time creative collaborators as a cornerstone of modern Nollywood cinema.
Industry colleagues, fan associations, and cultural figures have begun sharing tributes online, honouring his contributions to Nigerian arts and culture.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
