Shock and mourning have gripped the Nigerian business community both at home and abroad following the sudden death of a well-known international trader, Blessing Orji, better known as “Bebe Jewelry” in far-away China
The entrepreneur, known for importing high-end jewellery, fashion accessories, and luxury goods from Asia to Nigeria, reportedly collapsed inside a merchant’s shop in China during a routine business trip.
CCTV footage sparks online reaction
Circulating widely across social platforms, the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captures the tragic final moments of the businesswoman.
In the video, she is seen standing inside a store interacting with shop attendants while inspecting items on display.
Then, she sits down, puts a hand on her chest and grabs a bottle of water to take a sip. Next, she kicks off her footwear, apparently to feel more comfortable.
As two other shoppers pass in front of her, she collapses to the ground, creating instant panic in the shop.
The Chinese shop attendants rush towards her, and push away an item near her head, but refrain from touching her or doing CPR.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene later and confirmed her dead.
Tributes pour in from the business community
News of her sudden demise sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s SME and trade sectors, where “Bebe Jewellery” built a reputation as a hardworking, resourceful importer operating from her high-traffic shop at Lambest Plaza, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.
Her shop bridged supply chains between China and major commerce hubs in Lagos and environs.
Friends, clients, and fellow merchants have taken to digital platforms to share heartfelt tributes, remembering her energy, entrepreneurial spirit, and dedication to her craft.
