Ekiti State govt probes mysterious offensive odour in Ado Ekiti

The Ekiti State Government has launched a comprehensive investigation into reports of a persistent foul odour affecting various parts of Ado Ekiti, the state capital, while calling on residents to remain calm.

In an official statement, the State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, assured the public that state agencies are actively working to locate the source of the environmental disturbance and safeguard public health.

Key findings and enforcement actions

According to the government, preliminary surveillance and site inspections identified several contributing factors to the air pollution, including improper sewage disposal, inadequate waste management, and the illegal dumping of decomposed organic matter into drainage systems.

In response, state enforcement officers have initiated legal proceedings against identified violators, sealed non-compliant facilities, cleared waste hazards, and carried out targeted fumigation exercises.

Environmental testing and reporting channels

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has begun air quality sampling and gas analysis to gather scientific data regarding the precise nature of the odour.

Officials urged citizens to refrain from spreading unverified rumours and advised anyone with relevant information to reach the Ministry of Environment via its dedicated reporting line at 08145571085.
