President Tinubu congratulates Adeleke on re-election
Says his victory shows people’s confidence in him
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Governor Ademola Adeleke following his re-election victory in the August 15 Osun State gubernatorial election.
The President characterised the election outcome as a clear demonstration of the public’s confidence in the governor and a testament to Nigeria’s growing democratic culture.
The commendation was released on Sunday through a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. President Tinubu confirmed he personally telephoned Governor Adeleke to acknowledge his triumph at the polls.
“His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” President Tinubu stated. He urged Governor Adeleke to focus on unifying the state to drive socio-economic growth and stability, regardless of political affiliations during the election.
Final election breakdown
According to the official results declared at 7:24 am on Sunday by the State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Governor Adeleke—running under the Accord Party banner—secured 511,067 votes. He defeated his main challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes. The candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke carried 19 out of the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Osun State, leaving Oyebamiji with 11 LGAs. The victory awards Adeleke a second four-year tenure, following his initial election win in 2022.
President Tinubu also acknowledged the conduct of the election, praising the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and local security agencies for delivering a peaceful and transparent electoral process.
In response, Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude for the President’s congratulatory call and reiterated his support for President Tinubu’s administration, highlighting the strong ties between the federal government and Osun State.
