A Nigerian man, Ebikedoumene Bonny Jeff, has shared his grief on social media after his marriage to his wife, Yinlayefa, came to a painful end.

In a Facebook post published on Saturday, August 8, 2026—which marked what would have been their 5th wedding anniversary—Jeff disclosed that the union broke down after his wife vowed never to forgive him for his infidelity and past choices.

Jeff admitted that the demise of their marriage stemmed from his own actions, specifically acknowledging that he “mistakenly followed another woman.”

He also revealed that his wife remained deeply hurt by a past mistake from their early years when he forced her to abort three pregnancies while he was still struggling through university.

From village sweethearts to years of hardship and support

Reflecting on their journey, Jeff recounted that their love story began in their village back in 2008. The couple welcomed their first daughter in 2011, after which Jeff left to pursue higher education while Yinlayefa cared for their child.

Describing her as humble, caring, and a true “wife material,” Jeff highlighted how she stood by him during his most difficult financial years.

After graduating in 2015, Jeff remained unemployed until 2019. Throughout that period, Yinlayefa secured a job at the Federal University, Otuoke, paid their family bills, supported his career pursuits, and visited various churches to pray for his success.

Following his eventual employment, the couple officially tied the knot on August 8, 2021. However, tragedy struck shortly after their wedding when their new baby died, marking the beginning of an overwhelming strain on their relationship.

“In 2015 I finished school & she got a job at federal university Otueke and she started taking care of the house… paying all the bills, praying church to church for me to succeed,” Jeff recalled. “What are the issues I caused in the marriage? (1) she took in up to three times while i was in school and I asked her to remove dem… (2) I mistakenly follow another woman to her notice & she vowed not to forgive me in life.”

Mutual separation chosen over an unhappy marriage

According to Jeff, the combined weight of their lost child, the past abortions, and his infidelity completely altered the dynamic of their home.

He stated that his wife withdrew all affection and submission, leading to constant emotional punishment, silence, and severe distress that brought threats of self-harm and violence.

Recognising that the union had become unviable, the couple mutually agreed to go their separate ways.

Despite the bitter outcome, Jeff expressed gratitude for the immense sacrifices Yinlayefa made to help him succeed in life, describing her as the “hero” and “woman of his youth” as he comes to terms with the end of his family unit.
