A recent graduate of the Lagos State University (LASU) is currently battling for his life in a hospital after being shot by a four-man armed robbery gang in the Igando area of Lagos State.
The violent incident occurred on Sunday along Kayode Onafuye Street in the Alhaji Ede axis of Igando, when the criminals attempted to rob a female Point of Sale (PoS) operator at her residence.
Frustrated robbers open fire after being locked out
According to local accounts, the gang arrived at the scene on two motorcycles, initially checking the PoS operator’s shop before trailing her to a nearby bungalow.
Eyewitnesses reported that the robbers attempted to force their way into the residential building while shouting her name. However, the occupants quickly secured the main entrance, preventing the gunmen from gaining entry.
Enraged by the blocked access, the gang began shooting indiscriminately into the street as they fled.
“The robbers came on two motorcycles and were about four in number. They had traced the PoS operator to her house,” a resident identified as Bode disclosed. “When the occupants shut the entrance door, preventing them from gaining access, they started shooting indiscriminately out of frustration.”
Victim shot while heading home, preparing for NYSC
The victim, who was walking down the street at the time of the attack, unknowingly walked into the crossfire and was struck by a stray bullet.
A local shop owner who witnessed the aftermath noted that neighbors immediately rushed to assist the injured youth after the gunmen fled.
The victim was rushed to a nearby General Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Community members identified him as a recent LASU graduate who was actively making preparations to deploy for the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.
Police launch investigation, recover bullet shells
A police source confirmed that tactical teams were dispatched to the location shortly after receiving distress calls regarding the shooting.
Investigating officers processed the crime scene and recovered several spent bullet shells in front of the target building.
When contacted regarding the incident, the Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, stated that official details had not yet reached her desk but promised to investigate and provide an update on the ongoing manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
