A Nigerian woman, Ogechie Nwosu, has narrated how her friend’s marriage crashed moments after they concluded their wedding reception.
Nwosu had first posted a video of herself resplendent in a beautiful outfit. She wrote the following caption: “Just admiring the stunning outfit that I spent almost N400,000 for, and the marriage ended after the reception party”.
Following requests from her followers on TikTok, she decided to share the story with the permission of the active participant, her friend.
According to her, she was one of the ‘aso ebi’ girls at the wedding reception held in the bride’s village.
She recalled that everything went without any major hitch until the party was over and the owner of the cooling van they used for the drinks indicated interest in leaving.
The cooling van operator asked where to offload the remainder of the drinks, and the mother of the bride said they should offload the drinks in her house, since the reception took place near the bride’s compound.
This was opposed by the mother-in-law of the bride, who insisted that the drinks should be offloaded in the groom’s car so that they could take the drinks back to their own compound to entertain guests.
As a compromise, the mother of the bride reportedly said they could give her some of the drinks for her own guests while the rest could be taken away. This was again reportedly opposed by the groom’s mother, leading to the two women exchanging hot words.
The groom reportedly came into the altercations and took sides with his mother, and was incensed that his bride reportedly talked harshly to his mother.
He reportedly confronted the bride violently for allegedly insulting his mother and ended up slapping her even though she was about six months pregnant.
Nwosu recalled that the brothers of the bride also got involved, leading to physical combat between them and the groom.
In the end, the bride reportedly told the groom she would no longer be going with him back to their compound as arranged.
Instead of placating the angry bride, the groom reportedly stormed into his car and zoomed off.
Nwosu said the following day, they were expecting both parties to have calmed down and resolved the issue, but were surprised that the groom maintained his hard stance.
She said even when the bride went to the couple’s home to retrieve her belongings, she found that he had changed the lock.
When the bride called the man to inform him of her intention to retrieve her belongings and the things she had purchased for their forthcoming baby, the man reportedly curtly told her he was not in town.
The bride reportedly got a carpenter to break down the door to enable her to retrieve her things.
Nwosu said the entire incident happened in 2023, and up till now, the bride and the groom have refused to reconcile.
She said the man is now making arrangements to marry another woman, while her friend remains single.
Nwosu said she suspected there were some other underlying issues, but was not competent to speak on them unless her friend wanted to expose them.
She, however, added that the groom had a baby mama before he met her friend, and the baby mama had managed to endear herself to the mother-in-law. She believes that could also have been responsible for some of the issues the couple had.
