A 23-year-old woman walking in Nagoya, Japan, has died after a 29-year-old man fell from a 12-storey building and landed directly on her.

A 23-year-old woman has tragically passed away after a man fell from a high-rise building and landed on her as she walked down a street in central Japan.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, in the bustling Sakae entertainment and shopping district of Nagoya. 

The woman was walking alongside a friend when a 29-year-old man fell from a 12-storey residential building, landing directly on top of her.

Emergency services arrived at the scene following reports that a man had fallen and struck a pedestrian. Both individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

The young woman later died from hemorrhagic shock caused by the impact. Her friend was uninjured in the incident.

The 29-year-old man survived the fall but remains unconscious and in critical condition in intensive care.

Local police authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. According to reports from Japan Today, investigators have not yet determined whether the man fell accidentally or jumped deliberately, nor have they confirmed the exact floor from which he fell.

Police also revealed that the man was not a resident of the apartment block, and inquiries are ongoing to determine why he was inside the building at the time of the fall.
