The Boko Haram terrorist organisation has released a video obituary honouring one of its key media operatives, Abu Salim al-Barnawi, who was killed by Nigerian troops during a failed assault on a military base in Borno State.

The video clip was disclosed on Wednesday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI.

The military had previously reported that troops neutralised scores of Boko Haram fighters—including their dedicated videographer—during an intense firefight in the Lake Chad Basin region.

“Al-Barnawi was smoked last week by the Nigerian Army when the terrorist group attacked a military camp,” Captain Goni stated. “He was the cameraman who previously led raids into Cameroon before joining the media wing of the terrorist group.”

The three-minute and three-second obituary video highlights the late Al-Barnawi operating and displaying communication equipment across various locations prior to his death during the military engagement.
