The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the existence and operations of the fictitious Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has issued a formal summons requiring the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and several key ministers to appear before it on Thursday.

The decision followed troubling disclosures during the committee’s public hearing, chaired by Representative Yusuf Gagdi, which exposed major administrative breakdowns across federal bureaucracies.

In addition to the SGF, the panel ordered the personal appearance of the Inspector-General of Police, the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning.

Also expected to appear are the heads of the Budget Office of the Federation, the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), and the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.

The panel’s move comes after the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, testified that the office space reportedly used by the fake council formed part of the accommodation allocated to the Office of the SGF.

She also revealed that the non-existent agency had successfully obtained an establishment structure for 314 positions and a recruitment waiver before the fraud was uncovered.

“In continuation of this assignment, the secretariat should invite the SGF to appear and brief this committee on the issues raised,” Chairman Gagdi ruled, emphasising that the panel is determined to unearth how an illegal entity infiltrated core government systems.

The investigation is part of a broader government response following President Bola Tinubu’s directive ordering anti-graft and security agencies to thoroughly probe the multi-billion naira administrative scam.
