A Canada-based Nigerian woman, Ezinne Maryjane Nwanorue, has triggered widespread online debate after requiring her husband to publicly record and share a video swearing an oath of fidelity before finalising his relocation to join her overseas.

Nwanorue posted several updates detailing the spiritual and emotional conditions her husband, Franklin Chimaobim Nwanorue, had to fulfil before receiving his visa.

According to Ezinne, the public declaration on social media was a divine directive aimed at protecting her marriage and family unit after three years of living apart.

“Before my husband can be given a visa to Canada, he must make a video confessing and post on Facebook and his WhatsApp status that if he comes to Canada and cheats on me, he will die, in the name of Jesus,” she wrote in one of her posts. She added that he must also swear to remain a faithful husband and father.

In a follow-up declaration, she emphasised that no amount of public criticism would alter her stance, stating that any act of infidelity by her husband after arriving in Canada would carry fatal spiritual consequences.

Husband submits to public declaration

Responding to his wife’s demands, Franklin recorded a video addressing Ezinne directly and posted the clip online as requested.

In the recording, he confirmed his willingness to make the public declaration to restore peace to their home and reunite with his wife and children after three years of separation.

“My lovely wife, as it is directed by God and I want the best for you and my children, I don’t want you to be hurt any longer,” Franklin said in the video. “I confess, and I promise, if I ever come to Canada and cheat on you, that I die in the name of Jesus Christ.”

He pleaded with his wife to forgive past misunderstandings, adding that he did not care about public backlash or opinion as long as it brought happiness and stability to their marriage.

The video has since gone viral across social media platforms.
