A 26-year-old British woman who falsely accused a UK banker of rape and attempted to blackmail him for £100,000 has been sentenced to six years in prison by a Hong Kong court.
Isabel Anonia Barbra Eudora Rose, hailing from Hackney, East London, was convicted of blackmail and perverting the course of justice following a six-day trial.
Delivering the judgment at the District Court in Hong Kong on Wednesday, July 22, Judge Adriana Noelle Tse Ching stated that Rose had shown “not an iota of remorse for her wicked behaviour” before ordering her to serve six years at the Tai Lam Correctional Institution, Hong Kong’s maximum-security women’s prison.
Court records showed that Rose met the victim—identified in court only as Mr. X—while travelling in Thailand and later flew to Hong Kong to meet him in February 2024.
After spending the night together, the pair engaged in consensual intimate acts. However, in the days following, Rose filed a police report claiming she had been raped. Though the banker was initially arrested, he was promptly released without charge after investigators found no medical or physical evidence supporting her claims.
It was later revealed in court that Rose asked the banker for £5,000 shortly after the encounter, which he paid.
She subsequently demanded an additional £100,000, threatening to go to authorities if he failed to comply.
Judge Ching praised the victim as an “honest, credible, and reliable witness,” while labelling Rose as “dishonest and unreliable.”
The judge rejected pleas for leniency based on Rose’s clean criminal record, handing down a starting sentence of five years for blackmail and three years for perverting the course of justice, with one year running consecutively for a total six-year term.
