Nigerian man reportedly slumps and dies following three consecutive shifts in the UK

A 40-year-old Nigerian caregiver reportedly died from exhaustion after working for three consecutive days without sleep.

The incident, which gained traction through a viral social media video, has highlighted the intense financial pressures faced by many migrant workers who take on extreme workloads to support their families and fund projects in Nigeria.

Colleague recounts final conversation with the deceased

According to the narrator in the viral video, a fellow Nigerian colleague of the deceased provided details of the tragedy to the police. The colleague revealed that the caregiver had been taking consecutive shifts across different locations without any rest.

The narrator quoted the colleague as saying:

“Before the shift change, the guy told him that he had been working different shifts, different locations for three days without sleeping.”

When questioned about why he was pushing his body to such dangerous limits, the caregiver explained that he was trying to raise enough money to complete a housing project back in Nigeria before August.

Caregiver reportedly refused to leave work despite feeling unwell

As the gruelling shift neared its end, the caregiver reportedly admitted to his colleague that he was starting to feel ill.

Although his colleague strongly advised him to go home and rest, the caregiver refused to leave. He explained that leaving early would mean forfeiting his pay for that particular shift, a loss he felt he could not afford.

Tragic collapse while feeding a client

Determined to finish his shift, the caregiver continued working despite his deteriorating physical state.

According to the viral report, the strain ultimately proved fatal. While feeding a client, the 40-year-old caregiver suddenly collapsed and passed away.

The narrator of the video expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, questioning the extreme sacrifices many migrants make in pursuit of financial goals:

“This guy wanted to complete the house back home by next month. Who is going to complete the house now?”
