Babcock University has officially distanced itself from an academic certificate shared online by comedian and content creator Carter Efe, declaring the document a total fabrication.

The private institution issued a formal clarification following a recent viral interview where the social media personality, whose real name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, claimed he graduated from the university with a top-tier degree.

Babcock University points out clear grading inconsistencies

The controversy escalated after the comedian appeared on a popular web show hosted by Egungun of Lagos and boasted about earning a high-grade degree in biochemistry.

To back his claims, Carter Efe later posted an image of a certificate on X, asserting it was his official graduation document from the class of 2023.

However, management officials quickly noticed glaring discrepancies, pointing out that the institution has never utilised the specific phrasing printed on the viral document for its grading metrics.

The institutional difference in degree classification

According to the management statement, the university does not hand out honorary titles to mark standard undergraduate performance, relying strictly on documents processed by the office of the registrar.

Furthermore, the school administrators highlighted a fundamental error in the text of the uploaded document, explaining that the only classification they recognise for top graduates is First Class Honours. The phrase First Class Upper simply does not exist anywhere within their official academic registry systems.

Management issues warning against forged credentials

The school authorities have strongly advised employers, government agencies, and the general public to verify any academic credentials claiming to be from their campus.

The management warned that anyone attempting to use unauthorised or altered documents to claim employment, advanced admissions, or professional validation would be met with serious legal resistance.

The university added that it is actively taking institutional steps to pursue legal action against the content creator for circulating the falsified degree.
