Details emerging from the tragic murder-suicide case in Kamweli Village in Makutano, Mwea, Mbeere South, Embu County, Kenya, where a man killed his wife, suggest that the victim might have snatched the man from his first wife, with whom he had two kids.

Residents of the village were shocked to discover the lifeless bodies of the couple, officially identified by authorities as 31-year-old Christine Mbene and her 32-year-old husband, Lucas Muthusi.

According to local residents and family members, the tragedy unfolded under unclear circumstances, though neighbours suspect Muthusi attacked his wife with an axe before consuming poison.

A close friend and neighbour, Triza Njeri, noted that Mbene had been seen shortly before the incident running errands for her children and described her as a friendly individual, adding that Muthusi was a former schoolmate.

The mother of the deceased woman, Esther Kanini Musyoka, revealed that the couple had been married for five years but had a history of marital conflict.

Musyoka stated that her daughter had previously reported domestic issues at the Makutano Police Post.

Musyoka explained that her daughter stopped responding to phone calls shortly after Muthusi contacted her, stating he wanted to discuss an urgent matter with his wife and mother-in-law.

Musyoka later arrived at the scene only to find the lifeless bodies of the couple loaded into a police vehicle.

Information now emerging indicates that Lucas Muthusi was previously married to a woman identified as Mama Elvoh.

Giovanni Fletcher, a lady who identified herself as a neighbour of the late couple, took to social media to pay them tribute, but also seized the opportunity to place it on record that their relationship was built on the pain of another person.

“People are mourning you, but they don’t know the pain you two caused Mama Elvoh”, Fletcher wrote in her tribute.

She accused the late Christine Mbene of carrying on an affair with Muthusi while he was still married to Mama Elvoh.

The neighbour further accused the late young woman of openly showing affection to Muthusi in the presence of the two kids he shared with Mama Elvoh.

She further alleged that the action of the two lovebirds deeply hurt Mama Elvoh, who later moved on with her life after the two decided to marry.

Fletcher ended her unsparing tribute with the words: “RIP my neighbours”.

Law enforcement officers from the region have moved the bodies to a local mortuary as investigations continue to establish the exact motive behind the violent dispute.
